Day 13: Cobar to Bourke (91m)
Distance: 166.39km
Av speed: 18.7kmh
Total Elevation: 165m
Calories: 5297 per person
Weather: Cloudy and warm (18*C)
Once again we set the alarm for 530am, with the best intentions of leaving by 630am. Delayed with breakfast at the amazing Cobar Hot Food Bakery, it was 7am by the time we went to depart. Before the wheel had even turned a full rotation, Jon noticed a puncture in his front tyre and we were delayed whilst we made the necessary change.
Out on the road today it was more of the same – even more wild goats, emus, red dirt and shrubs, road trains, grey nomads and roadkill.
We made good time throughout the day, acting like little team time triallists –each doing 20km turns on the front, before a 5 min(ish) break... repeated 8 times.
We arrived at Bourke around 330pm, stopping briefly for a refreshment before continuing onto our accommodation a further 5km up the road.
We’re currently repairing broken spokes and preparing for tomorrow... a possible attack of 250km to Cunnamulla in order to catch up for the lost day earlier this week. If we’re able to make it, we’ll then be in line for our rest day at Charleville on Sunday.
